Blue Flags on the Costa Blanca

No doubt you have come across them on the coast in Spain; blue flags. The Blue Flag (in Spanish Bandera Azul) is an internationally recognized environmental award and is a guarantee of a clean, safe and sustainable beach.

At the beginning of this month, for the year 2025 the Blue Flag was officially awarded to 642 beaches in Spain. As many as 65 of these beaches are located on the Costa Blanca.

  • The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE): a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable development through education about the environment;
  • The Asociación de Educación Ambiental y del Consumidor (ADEAC): a non-profit organization dedicated to environmental education and information in Spain. It is the Spanish branch of the FEE and is responsible for the implementation of the Blue Flag, among other things.
