Jardín de l’Albarda in Pedregeur

Jardín de l’Albarda is located in Pedreguer, an authentic Spanish town in the Marina Alta region. This location offers the best of both worlds: the tranquility of the interior with its rolling landscapes surrounded by orange groves and vineyards, and the proximity to the lively coast. Located at the foot of the Muntanya Gran, Pedreguer acts as a perfect base for the popular coastal towns of Dénia and Jávea.

Renaissance tiun with Arabic influences

As soon as you step into the gates of l’Albarda, you leave the everyday world behind. The garden is not just a collection of plants; it is a carefully designed landscape that breathes the atmosphere of old Valencian Renaissance gardens, enriched with distinct Arabic influences. A Renaissance garden is essentially an extension of the architecture of a villa or palace outward.

Stroll along the narrow paths, under vine-covered pergolas, and be surprised by the enchanting fountains and tiled pat ios that pop up in unexpected places. The architectural elements are as important as the flora, giving you the feeling of having stepped into another time.

Garden with different styles

The Jardín de l’Albarda is a living example of the rich flora that the Mediterranean climate has to offer. In an area of no less than 50,000 square meters, you will find an impressive collection of more than 700 native plant species.

In addition to this local splendor, the garden also houses an extensive collection of roses and palm trees. The garden is divided into several zones, from a tight, formal garden to wilder sections and orchards, which together form a harmonious and varied landscape.

Jardín de l’Albarda as a demonstration garden

The garden was originally created in 1990 by Enrique Montoliu. He later transferred his life’s work to the foundation FUNDEM(Fundación Enrique Montoliu), which he founded in 1996 with the goal of protecting Mediterranean flora and fauna.

L’Albarda serves as a demonstration garden for sustainable gardening. It shows how to create a breathtakingly beautiful and ecologically sound environment with native plants, which naturally require little water and chemicals.

So a visit is not only pleasing to the eye, but also an inspiration for a more sustainable lifestyle. With your entrance ticket, you directly contribute to the preservation of this unique heritage and the foundation’s important mission.
